Allan N. Karlin

Allan N. Karlin, a graduate of Yale College (1969) and Boalt Hall, the law school of the University of California at Berkeley (1974), has practiced law in West Virginia since 1975. In 1981, Mr. Karlin opened his own law office. Since then, he has represented clients in personal injury and employment cases throughout West Virginia, including appearances before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Over the years, Mr. Karlin has been recognized for his dedication to the practice of law and serving others.  

•    1993-present - The Best Lawyers in America has recognized Mr. Karlin for his work in the field of employment law

•    2004 - His colleagues recognized his work, naming Mr. Karlin a Fellow of the West Virginia State Bar Foundation.

•    2005 - Received the Sid Bell Memorial Award from the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia for his commitment to civil liberties

•    2006 - Named the Member of the Year by the West Virginia Association for Justice, and honored by induction in the American College of Trial Lawyers.

•    2007 - Selected as a member of The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers.

•    2007-present - Named a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer magazine.

•    2012 - The West Virginia Human Rights Commission honored Mr. Karlin at the ninth annual West Virginia Civil Rights Day celebration.

•    2016 - West Virginia University College of Law honored Mr. Karlin with its Justitia Officium Award for outstanding service and contributions to the legal profession.

•    2018 - Named one of the West Virginia University College of Law’s 2018 Lawyers & Leaders.

Mr. Karlin was a member of the West Virginia Lawyer Disciplinary Board for six years and served as Chairperson of the Board from 2000-2003. For many years, he was also a member of the Ethics & Sanctions Committee of the National Employment Lawyers Association. Mr. Karlin has served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the West Virginia University College of Law where he has taught Pre-Trial Litigation, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest. Mr. Karlin frequently lectures to other lawyers on a variety of topics.
